Mushrooms are a reliable source of food for many of the worlds inhabitants, including the slugs who devour more than their share on a frequent basis. They efficiently help return mushroom spores back to the forest floor through their slime trails. Image captured in the woods of Maine.

Fantastic capture, Sue ... beautiful lightness and dof ... and how fun that you captured a slug in the act!!! You may have just answered a question I had this morning. I had a crop of at least a dozen mushrooms in the garden and had thought to get some shots this morning when the light would be better. But they're pretty sad looking this morning. Good chance there was a slug party out there, last night!! f t
Sue Capuano replied:
Thanks so much Lois, sorry the hungry slugs got your mushrooms, that happens a lot to me too!
